Vitality stain
VitalScreen uses eosin-nigrosin staining to assess the percentage of live spermatozoa. The technique is based on the principle that dead cells absorb eosin through their cell membrane and stain red. Nigrosin provides a dark background that facilitates slide evaluation. Sperm vitality should be determined when less than 40% of sperm are motile. In samples with low motility, it is important to distinguish between immobile dead spermatozoa and immobile living spermatozoa.
VitalScreen is a semi-quantitative, non-automated diagnostic test for assessing sperm vitality in a semen sample using eosin-nigrosin staining. VitalScreen can help in the diagnosis and management of male infertility.
VitalScreen has a shelf life of 24 months from the date of production. Information on product composition is available in the safety data sheet.
