Some IVF and ICSI procedures use a layer of oil to protect small volumes of culture medium from evaporation in the incubator, and to help mitigate the effects of sudden changes in temperature, gas saturation and pH.
Similarly, handling gametes under the microscope requires them to be held in small drops of medium under oil, to maintain a constant environment in the culture medium. NidOil is a kerosene oil layer designed for gametes and embryos.
Features
- In vitro superimposition for gametes and embryos.
- Maintains a constant environment within the growing medium.
- Neither sticky nor too viscous
- Thick enough to prevent the movement of drops of medium around the culture dish for easy pipetting
- Supplied in amber, screw-capped bottles to prevent light-induced deterioration (several reports of kerosene oils becoming embryotoxic after exposure to light on the laboratory bench).
